Generally applicants can use Express Entry to apply for three types of Residence permits: work; temporary resident; and permanent resident.

Permanent residence cards

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it would begin issuing permanent residence cards. Applicants who have been granted conditional green card status, this is applied to them.

This change came about after Congress passed legislation allowing people with conditional green cards to apply for it.

Equally, applicants must meet certain requirements to qualify for Canadian Residence permit, including having lived continuously in the U.S. since January 14, 2010. They also must pass background checks and pay fees.

USCIS estimates that 2 million people could receive the cards over the next five years. The agency will start accepting applications on April 1, 2017.
